About
Hi, thank you for visiting our website!
Da Kine? Melissa lived in Maui when she was first married and her oldest son was actually born there. They have a local slang that becomes pretty important to understand if you are going to live and work on the island. Da Kine is a Hawaiian slang word for whatchamacallit, thingybob, pretty much anything that you don’t have a word for, becomes “oh you know, da kine book, street, relative, store…” etc. So Da Kine Knits was born, because sometimes we don’t have words to express what we mean.
About Melissa:
I am a SAHM to my son, Zackary (5 years old) and daughter, Katarina (3 years) and Addyson Joy (born August 09). I have been happily married to my husband, Ben (who is also our techie guru) for 6 years. We live in the Silicon Valley in Northern California. We home school our kids, so my days are always filled with craziness and fun! We are happy to announce the newest addition to our family, Annabell, our new puppy! (Don’t worry, all my knitting supplies are kept high out of hers and the 3 year olds reach, lol).
My grandmother taught me how to knit years before but all I ever made was scarves and blankets. But I started knitting longies in order to make some affordable wool items for my older daughter, which then turned into a hobby I really enjoy. I decided to start knitting for others because there is only so many I can do for my little one before she has way too many. Plus, it allows me to offer pretty wool to mama’s that might not be able to afford it otherwise. I opened DaKine Knits in December of 2008 and have happily been knitting away for many wonderful mama’s. It has been such a joy to get to know and work with so many different people, and has really given me a creative outlet. I joined the A La Mode Congo on Hyena Cart in the summer of 2009 and have gotten to know more about running a business and advertising, and of course many more talented artisans.

Nicole and I met on a popular cloth diaper website in March of 2008 and have been soul sisters since. We are both the oldest of 5 kids, raised in very similar homes with similar values. Our kids just “happen” to be all the same ages. (We think God orchestrated it all, lol) We go to the same church (me and my husband help them with the youth) and live in the same city. We both love yarn and knitting so it is with great joy that I can add her as a business partner. She is an extremely talented photographer so there will be some really great changes happening in the gallery section very soon! We both use the same basic pattern but will offer slightly different cuffs, hats and extra’s.
About Nicole:
I’m a mostly sahm to my 3 beautiful kids. My husband is a full time youth pastor, and we spend a lot of time working together at our church with the high school group, young adult group, and kids. When we aren’t working at the church we love relaxing together as a family, and hanging out with the Simpson family who live just 4 blocks away.
I am mama to Kyla who is almost 5, and a drama filled, spirited, too big for her own britches little girl. Makenna who is 2 and a half, currently potty training (very sad for our girly wool situation), pixie of a little girl. And our newest addition to the family Levi, born in September weighing a whopping 10lb 6oz, who is the sweetest most content, chunker of a boy, that any mama could ask for.

About Beth:
I am a SAHM, I have 5 children and 5 grandchildren. Melissa (yep, same Melissa as above) is grown and married with 3 children. Adam is also grown and married with 2 children (Landen, 3 and Bella, born Jan 2010). Andrew is almost 20 and still lives at home, he works full time and is going to school to become a machinist. Both Adam and Andrew work for TCB-which is the business that Melissa’s FIL started and still owns and operates. Bethany is 14 and in 8th grade and Bekka is 11 and in 6th grade. They both are home schooled and in 4-H. On our farm we have about 20 dairy goats (soon to be more in the spring!), 1 baby calf, 4 dogs, 2 cats and a Turtle. We have 5 acres of land about 10 minutes from Melissa and Nicole.
I have been a knitter for a long time, I learned when I was a young girl. I love to knit for pleasure and relaxation.I like to knit blankets, and have made them for all of my grandchildren, they call them their “loves”. I also crochet ponytails. I am learning more things and look forward to sharing them with you.
